If your business receives more cardboard boxes than it can reuse, a cardboard shredder can turn some of that surplus into packing material for outgoing orders. The next question is which machine suits your operation.
FP Mail offers two cardboard recyclers: the RD-325 and RD-425. The best choice depends on how much cardboard you process, how regularly you need packing material and the space and power available in your warehouse.
RD-325: For medium to large volumes
The RD-325 is designed for businesses processing medium to large amounts of cardboard. FP Mail lists a 1.5 kW motor and states that it can handle three-ply cardboard.
It may suit a warehouse that regularly receives cartons and wants to produce protective material for its own dispatch bench. If your cardboard volume varies from week to week, consider how much material you need to process on your busiest days, rather than looking only at an average day.
RD-425: For regular, high-volume processing
The larger RD-425 is intended for operations that handle substantial cardboard volumes on a regular basis. It has a 2.2 kW, three-phase motor.
That power requirement is an important practical difference. Before considering the RD-425, check whether your proposed location has suitable three-phase power and enough room for the machine, incoming cardboard and finished packing material.
Questions to ask before choosing
Walk through your current packing process and note:
- How many cartons arrive each day or week?
- How much protective packaging do you use for outgoing orders?
- Are you processing cardboard steadily or in occasional large batches?
- What types and thicknesses of cardboard do you receive?
- Where would the shredder and finished material be stored?
- Is three-phase power available if you need the larger machine?
Your answers will help you judge whether the RD-325 has the capacity you need or whether the RD-425 is a better match for a consistently larger workload.
Match output to actual demand
A cardboard shredder is most useful when the material it produces can be incorporated into your packing process. Ask your team which products need cushioning or void fill, and test how the recycled cardboard works with the cartons you already use.
The right machine is the one that fits both sides of the workflow: the cardboard coming into your warehouse and the packaging needed for orders going out.
